I have to be honest, at first I was sure that one of the branches of the tourism industry that would have the hardest time getting on Social Media would be the car rental industry. I could imagine that they would use it to get in touch with their customers, this would also allow feedback but I didn’t expect them to be as active as they are.
If you take the time to go on Hertz or Avis’ Facebook and Twitter account you will see many posts. Although, Avis’ (Facebook and @avis) is more used as a forum for customers to talk about their experience, it does provide them with a chance to scan their environment to respond to any bad feedback. To me even if Avis has topped the Social Media Popularity Index, Hertz (Facebook and @hertz) is doing a much better job at making it interesting and not just about experience comments. They organize contests that include prices other than just a free rental, they are more interactive and consistent in their posts, their pages represent them well, and they really try to tap into people’s interests with their posts.
